NATURE
OF WORK:
Works with program staff and managers to develop concepts, write and edit materials for a diversified array of healthcare issues. Responsible for the overall planning, coordination, development and writing of grant proposals. Incumbent will assist in developing the presentation strategy and preparing proposals for new and continuation funding from federal, state, and municipal government agencies, private foundations, and businesses.
This is a job progression, three levels, designed to provide progressively more responsible and independent work experiences to participants as part of the overall assessment of their ability and capability. Promotion between job levels is based on performance of prior assignments and the demonstrated ability to successfully handle more progressively responsible assignments.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Seeks out additional learning opportunities to continue to develop the technical and professional skills needed now and in the future. Takes responsibility for all work activities and personal actions by following through on commitments. Develops proposals for grant funding that meet the technical submission requirements of the funding organization. Researches and maintains resource databases consisting of potential funding sources from federal, state, municipal and private sectors; and, up-to-date information (including executive summaries) on Southcentral Foundation departments and programs. Maintains and continuously updates organizational, divisional, and program funding needs and priorities to assure that all possible opportunities for funding are examined and considered when they are present. Ability to write clear, coherent, correct, persuasive documents that adhere to the formatting and content requirements of a potential funding agency. Proficiency in the use of word processing and spreadsheet software. Ability to perform writing duties with minimum supervision. Ability to communicate in English using syntax and spelling that meets supervisory standards. Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
SCF programs are established for the purpose of serving a primary population comprised of Alaska Natives who are affiliated with the Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), and Alaska Natives and American Indians within SCF’s geographical service area. Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the CIRI members, and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians. Such knowledge is critical in order to ensure the achievement of the mission and vision of SCF: working together with the Native community to provide the best services with Native staff who value the family and family wellness as the heart of the Native community. Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a field including business or public administration, health administration, a social science, or equivalent education and experience. Three (3) years of documented, progressive experience writing proposals. Additional Qualifications for Grant Writer II: Meets all requirements of Grant Writer I in addition to the following: Four (4) years of documented experience writing funded proposals encompassing a variety of funders for healthcare, behavioral healthcare, or a combination involving at least two of the following: healthcare facilities and infrastructure, social service programs, education, and/or community economic development. Additional Qualifications for Grant Writer III: Meets all requirements of Grant Writer II in addition to the following: Five (5) years of documented experience writing funded proposals encompassing a variety of funders for healthcare, behavioral healthcare, or a combination involving at least two of the following: healthcare facilities and infrastructure, social service programs, education, and/or community economic development. One (1) or more years in project administration accountable for personnel management, budget management, and attainment of project objectives.
